| Well, most of us on this website are now in high school, which means its time to start thinking about what colleges we will want to shoot for. We all have our dreams and aspirations (Brian=MIT), and our big dreams will-this is a slap in the face from reality-never happen. Nonetheless, why not share your aspirations with other obviously quite bored nerds and the like, on this here forum. So, I ask you, what colleges do you want to go to? My answer: Frankly, i am honestly shooting for Oxford in England, its a stretch and i'll need like a 32 on the ACT or a 2100 on the SAT, according to their website, but i'm hoping to atleast give it my all. Other than that, i dont really know...... |

| Why would you want to go to oxford? what kindof career are you going to shoot for? I honestly think people sometimes concetrate too much on high grades and good colleges too much, you can usually get the same amount of education or better at cheaper colleges, and that's okay because there's no reason to go to big schools if you aren't really special and aren't going for a special career path I really have no idea where I'm going to go, there's a small possibility I would go to filmschool, but probably not because all of the filmschool's are in California lol I do know that it is extremely smart to go to an Ohio college or university, because a lot of scholarships only apply if you go to an Ohio college, and also it's cheaper (for reasons that I forgot) My older brother robbie is 25 and he only went to college for 2 or 3 years and he is still paying off the costs of it, and he would be fine now, but he decided to go to Penn State (a really fine college, but it costs a lot more, and he didn't get any discounts for going to an college in ohio) The farther away, the more money, the less time with family, more dependent you are on yourself, more traveling = more money, and I would want to go somewhere far, but I think I'm going to try and shoot for the best college for my needs in Ohio Ramble Ramble Ramble _________________ Lost in solipsism he then slowly pulls a lever which sets off a mechanism which does nothing whatsoever but the nothing that it does negates the everything we know because it's screaming "Just because!" because it's neither friend or foe and so we label it a menace or a grandiose work of art. From its finale to its genesis we slowly pull it all apart. That's the beauty of it-- It doesn't do anything. |

Well, the thing is, you kind of sound naive. That's like saying you could get the same education in computer engineering at BGSU as you would at MIT. There is no comparison. You will get better schooling at MIT. A little backgound info on Oxford, though, is that was where J.R.R. Tolkein and C.S. Lewis went, and Tolkein became an English Literature Professor there. The English courses at Oxford is top notch, and Oxford is one of the best colleges in the world. If I'm going to pursue writing, which i might, that would be a great school to get into. The problem is i would need a 32 on my ACT or a 2100 on my SAT(haha, yeah right). Though you have a point, there would be no point in getting an education in anything technology related because that just isnt what they specialize in. Different colleges are known for different things.
But you are right that the farther away the more money which is a problem, but for instance, my dad just saw somehting when he was browsing the internet that a high school student got a 36/36 on his ACT and got a full-ride to Harvard. THAT would be nice, but impossible for me, lol. There are other things though, like some colleges do offer good scholarships outside of Ohio. Techinically, we are only sophomores, so we have a lot of time to think about this, haha, but it has really been on my mind lately.
I imagine i will end up going to a colleg in Ohio though. Actually, Miami is looking better and better, but anyway.... |

Well I meant between ordinary people, people that aren't special, going to a small school like Marietta or going to a big college like Ohio University, they will end up in the same place either way, even if they got perfect grades in highschool, instead of thinking about which school they go to and whether it's big, they need to think about the career they're going into and how they'll reach there destination and how they're going to work on that_________________ Lost in solipsism he then slowly pulls a lever which sets off a mechanism which does nothing whatsoever but the nothing that it does negates the everything we know because it's screaming "Just because!" because it's neither friend or foe and so we label it a menace or a grandiose work of art. but anyways yeah obviously going to college in state is a lot cheaper because colleges have in-state tuition that is a lot cheaper than out of state, but a lot of the big colleges like MIT and Harvard have the same price for both... which is really high.
but yeah ive been looking at college stuff recently too and i was looking at a list of the top colleges in the world. Oxford was 4th or 5th i think overall, and the highest out of the US. The top ones were like Harvard and Yale and Princeton. I think MIT was 6th overall, but it was the highest for engineering which will probably be the category of my major. That being said it would be really cool to go there, but it would also be a ton of money. But seeing as how im an only child and my parents both work full-time jobs i think they could help me a lot, assuming they dont lose their jobs any time soon...
i was thinking for a while that it might be good to go to michigan because they have a good engineering program too (9th on the list i saw i think?) but after doing research their out of state tuition is really close to what MITs is, so i think it would be cool to go there if i could get accepted._________________ "All the world's a stage And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts." - William Shakespeare's "As You Like It" |
