PostSubject: Mac Mini!   Thu Jul 26, 2007 1:31 pm

The mac mini is awesome... It's a computer.. that's only 6.5 inches by 2 inches big.. .. it could be ur computer and a coaster for ur drinks!.. I mean it runs tiger.. has a remote so you can go through just the media on ur computer.. and has all the things my huge desktop has right now.. except for it's a tiny lil thing! And you guys might be saying.. ok it's a tiny lil thing but it must be slow as heck or have bad graphics.. (well idk about graphics i doubt you'll need them because macs don't really have games anyhow) but ur wrong! It has an intel core duo and everything.. here's some stuff from the tech specs
Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory(1)
DVI video output to support digital resolutions up to 1920 by 1200 pixels; supports 20-inch Apple Cinema Display and 23-inch Apple Cinema HD Display; supports coherent digital displays up to 154MHz; supports noncoherent digital displays up to 135MHz

I think that's good...
It also comes with a 60gb or 80gb harddrive and optional 120 or 160 gb harddrive.. built in speakers.. all those plugs.. and the cd thing... plays movies.. has all the plugs you need..
Pretty good memory
    Processor and memory
1.66GHz or 1.83 Intel Core Duo processor
    2MB on-chip L2 cache
    667MHz frontside bus
    512MB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) on two SO-DIMMs; supports up to 2G

also it has built in Highspeed internet card (well chip) in it
So pretty much.. it has all that my computer has.. (actually more).. and all the plugs that are needed.... i think the only downside is that you can't open it up and put in graphics cards and stuff.. so people out there that like updating their computer and all that would have to send it back to apple to do that..

here's a back veiw of it..

the latest version of the mini is also 5 x faster than the last model.. Which is good!

Yeah, pj, sry to break ur heart, but macintosh has soled computers just like that before, and they have never worked out well. Never. Trust me, i remember my brother had to reprogram 1 for one of our neighbors before, adn it took a month because it was so slow and wouldnt work correctly, so he fixed and just advised the guy to get a full desktop computer instead. I wouldnt get ur hopes to high, lol.

Its not really faster than mine and it costs quite a bit more. The lower quality, base price dual core processor is has is pretty comparable to mine, i have 3.2 Ghz split into 2 parts with hyperthreading and it has 2 1.6 ghz processors so it works out to be the same pretty much. The memory is has pretty much sucks unless you pay a lot more for more of it. 512 Mb is like none at all these days. ! have 2 Gb (2048 Mb) of memory at a little bit slower speed of 400 MHz. Also, the graphics on that are really bad. I have a 128 Mb graphics card and it barely runs some of the newer games. But graphics are not only for games, applications need graphics too. Final Cut Studio 2 Requires 1-2 Gb of RAM, and a graphics card of 128 Mb, and the mac mini uses the graphics that are built into the motherboard, 64 Mb, which means its really slow because the processor has to deal with graphic information too. An actual graphics card contains a graphics processor that processes all the graphic information (duh) so the main processor dosent have to.

Really... for $600 in a mac mini you can get a 1.6 Ghz dual core processor, 512 Mb of RAM, and 64 Mb of graphics RAM, and like an 80 Gb hard drive. Would you want that, or what i got: $400 for a 3.2 Ghz processor, 2 Gb of RAM, 128 Mb of graphics memory, and a 120 GB hard drive? Apple just dosent really add up! Its not like theres anything that big that you can do on it that you cant do on it that you cant do with a PC. I mean sure they have better tech support and stuff, but when do PCs mess up bad enough to the point where they need it? And ppl like Colin... His computer wasnt working so he called Dell and they told him what to do. Do you really want to pay $200 more for a worse product and better tech support?

Also, ppl that want to upgrade their PC i doubt could even send it back to Apple to upgrade, 1 because they dont do that , and 2 because i highly doubt the motherboard has any PCI-E, AGP, or even PCI slots that you need to make it possible to put stuff in. No expansion slots is bad. that means you cant have any sound cards, and are limited to that one headphoen jack. With my sound card i have my 5.1 speakers taking up 3 jacks, and my headset takes up 2, one for the headphones and one for the mic. I mean it is really cool that they have something that powerful, that small, Its just that Id way rather have something bigger if it was cheaper and more powerful.

ya i know it's probably not faster than ur computer (even though it says it comes standard with 512 mb ram, but goes up to 2 gb ram) but i just said it cuz it's more dramatic! and ya the computer probably does have lots of bugs and what not.. but that's not the point.. it's the revolutionary standpoint that, desktop computers don't have to be so big and heavy anymore.. and that in 10-15 years most of our personal computers will be able to fit in our pocket..and yet just like 30 years b4 only computers were huge heavy things with monitors that go back further than how wide the screen is... i guess i should really change the subject of this thread to "the future of computers... lol
